'Both natives of Sydney, Australia, revered international stylist and colorist Gregorio Ruggeri and interior designer Craig Longhurst made a lifelong dream come true when they brought their successful salon business to New York City in 2010. 'Today, Salon Ruggeri seamlessly blends the finest talent in hairstyling with a rare one-on-one experience in an artful and chic setting. The salon has been named ""Best of New York"" by New York in 2011, ""2011 and 2012 Pick for Hair Cut"" in InStyle's Annual Beauty Black Book issue and of New York's ""Best Hair Colors"" in Allure's 2012 Colorist Directory. Ruggeri's work has also been highlighted in W, Time Out New York, Vanity Fair's ""The Beauty Blog"" and numerous other publications. 'The salon's intimate chandelier-clad space with grandiose original mirrors, designed by Longhurst, is finished with colorful, vibrant furniture and exquisite art work collected throughout their world travels. With a total of only four salon chairs, one in a private back space, and a menu of carefully selected tea and coffees, each client feels as if they are in the comfort of their own living room.

Greg Ruggeri's salon inhabits the front room of an apartment on the second floor of a walk-up on 18th Street. The back room houses the office of his partner, decorator Craig Longhurst, who did all the work on the space. Ruggeri plays multiple roles: owner, assistant, and stylist. After welcoming you and washing your hair with Evo shampoo, Ruggeri will sit you down on a chair in front of a black-framed mirror and leave you to relax as he goes to work with the soothing croons of Frank Sinatra playing in the background. He specializes in cutting, tone-on-tone highlighting, natural blonde highlighting, blowouts, and updos, the latter of which he learned from his mother, a hairdresser in the sixties who taught him the art of putting hair up. Ruggeri is also known for what is best described as hair ER, i.e. fixing bad highlights. The trained colorist has opened his salon for a desperate client at 10 p.m., working until 1 a.m. to repair a botched dye job.
